Savitribai Phule Pune University is also known by the name Pune University is among the top rated educational institutions of India. Founded in the year 1949 on 10th February, the University is spread over an area of 411 acres campus and consists of around 46 divisions. It was named after the former social reformer Savitribai Phule who contributed towards the empowerment of women through education.
The University is ranked 7th among the top universities in India by Times Higher Education. Underworld University rankings of 2018, the University ranked 188 in Asia, 143 among the BRICS and Economies University Rankings in 2017. In 2018 only, it was ranked 207 by the QS World University Rankings in Asia. There are several colleges affiliated to the University and admissions in them are done by the marks gained in the National level entrance exams. The University also organizes its entrance exams for getting admissions in several courses.

Started in 1948, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is an education institution situated in the urban setting of Pune. It is a non-profit organisation for the purpose of delivering value education to students. University is a place of coeducational education accredited or restructured by the University Grants Commission.
The vice chancellor doctor M.R. Jayakar under whose legislations the Poona University Act was passed. The act was passed by Bombay legislation in 1948. The University was aided by the then chief minister and education minister B.G. Kher for occupying a large area for the campus. In the year 2014, on 9th august the name of the University amended from University of Pune to Savitribai Phule Pune University in the honor of great leader Savitribai Phule. She was a reformer who played a major role in improving the conditions of women and Dalit communities during British colonial rule in Maharashtra. In starting, the University had an extended jurisdiction over 12 districts of western Maharashtra.
The University has recognized 70 research institutes for the purpose of research. Some of them are Indian Statistical Institute, National Chemical Laboratory, National Institute of Virology and various other research sectors.

Jayakar Knowledge Resource Center established in January 1950 is the central library of Savitribai Phule University. The library named in honor of Dr. M.R. Jayakar, the first vice-chancellor of the University. Services such as Internet Searching and printing, Reprography, Book lending, Inter-Library Loan, Reference Services, Extended reading room availability, and Literature search service are for the students.
The University has computer system well-modified with 60 states of art PCs and Desktop with a high-speed internet connection. The campus has a connection to superb Wi-Fi network.
The institute has an auditorium for organizing workshops, seminars & conferences, and extra-curricular activities. The library provides Book-bank facility for students. It provides an E-library facility to the students for going through any research work. The library subscribes for digital learning content from a database of EBSCO online.
The University offers wide range of course for students at Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral level. The candidates applying to get admission in the University can choose the course of their choice.
MBA is a two years full-time management course which offers candidate opportunity to make their career in management fields and groom their managing skills. For taking admission in the course a candidate needs to have completed his graduation with 50% marks (45% for reserved category candidates) in any discipline. The admission will be done by the marks gained in the written test and the interview.
For getting admission in the course, a candidate should have a master’s degree in any relevant discipline with aggregate 50% marks from a recognised University. The final selection takes place on the basis of previous academic scores and performance in the Entrance Examinations organized by the related Department.
Master of computer science is a two years course that offers the candidates a chance to take admission in computer science subjects. To take admission in the course candidates should have degree in B.E/B.Tech or B.Sc in Science or Physical Mathematics. Along with that a valid GATE score in physical science or mathematical or in any engineering disciplines. A candidate from a UGC-CSIR research fellow D.T.S.R. is exempted from the above eligibility.
The eligibility criteria for taking admission in the course is the candidate should have cleared B.E./B.TECH./M.Sc/M.C.A/M.C.S. or any equivalent degree from recognized University or Institute having sound knowledge of computing in UNIX/DOC environments.
Diploma in Business Management is a two-year full-time management course. A candidate should have a graduation degree from a recognized University with two years of working experience or Diploma in Engineering from a statutory technical board with 5-years post diploma experience.
